Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg 1756 and was a hugely influential composer of the Classical era. He began composing music at the aged of 5 and was a child prodigy. He was also extremely competent on keyboard and violin.  He composed over 600 works including symphonies, chamber works, operas, keyboard works amongst a huge array of other works.

Mozart composed works for flute including a concerto for flute and harp, a concerto in G Major and D Major, Andante in C and flute & string quartets.

Carl Reinecke (1824-1910) was born in Altona and was a talented pianist, composer and teacher. He studied with his father, Johann Peter Rudolph Reinecke, a music teacher. He later studied with Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann and Liszt and became a highly respected and influential musician of his time. From 1846-1848, Reinecke was Court Pianist for Christian VIII in Copenhagen. In 1851, Reinecke became a professor at the Cologne Conservatory and later Academic, Musical director and conductor of the Singakademie at Breslau. From 1860-1895, Reinecke was Director of the Gewandhaus Orchestra concerts in Leipzig, and Professor of composition and piano at the Conservatorium.

His compositional output included four piano concertos as well as concertos for violin, cello, harp and flute amongst other works. Reinecke is best known for his flute sonata “Undine”.
