Technical Flexibility for flute-Geoffrey Gilbert-Southern Music Company (Technical Flexibility for Flutists. A book of organized daily practice routines by Geoffrey Gilbert) Geoffrey Gilbert (1914-1989) was born in Liverpool. At the age of 16, he became Principal Flautist of the Halle orchestra. At 19, he joined the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He later became Principal Flute of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also a highly respected Professor of flute at the Royal Northern College of Music, Trinity College and the Guildhall School of Music. Among his students were William Bennett, Susan Milan and James Galway. In 1969, he moved to America.
