Geoffrey Gilbert-Flautist

Gilbert (1914-1989) was born in Liverpool. Aged 16, he became the Principal Flautist of the Halle orchestra. At 19, he joined the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He later became the Principal Flute of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also a highly respected Professor of flute at the Royal Northern College of Music, Trinity College and the Guildhall School of Music. Among his students were William Bennett, Susan Milan and James Galway. In 1969, he moved to America.
