About

True tango classics such as “Libertango”, “El choclo” & “Ojos Negros” by Piazzolla, Villoldo, Greco, and other tango composers, selected and arranged for two flutes by Diego Collatti.

Tango is full of life and passion – the fact that this love affair of music and rhythm has not lost any of its fascination is demonstrated by these classic tango pieces that have been selected for this collection and arranged for two flutes. When Astor Piazzolla, Vicente Greco, and Angel Villoldo meet in an edition of tango classics, entertainment and expertise of the highest level are sure to ensue. In addition to one of his own compositions, arranger Diego Collatti has selected some of the most popular tango tunes to be arranged for two flutes, among them “Libertango”, “El Choclo”, and “Ojos Negros”. Melancholic tunes, rhythmic precision, and untamed passion can be found in this stylistically diverse collection, the compositional art of which showcases the full emotional range of the tango tradition.

Let yourself be inspired by the liveliness and diversity of these tangos and enjoy this deeply-felt music.

Astor Pantaleón Piazzolla

Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) was an Argentine musician renowned for revolutionising the traditional tango genre. A virtuoso bandoneón player and composer, he blended jazz and classical elements into a new style called nuevo tango. Despite facing initial criticism in Argentina, Piazzolla’s innovative approach gained worldwide recognition.

Born in Mar del Plata, Argentina, Piazzolla moved to New York City in 1925, where he began playing the bandoneón and piano as a child. Returning to Argentina in 1936, he joined various tango orchestras before forming his own in 1946, experimenting with tango’s sound and structure. Piazzolla also composed music for films during this period.

In 1954, he studied in Paris with Nadia Boulanger, who encouraged him to embrace his unique musical style. Forming his influential Quinteto Nuevo Tango in 1960, featuring violin, electric guitar, piano, double bass, and bandoneón, Piazzolla combined tango and classical elements, facing initial resistance in Argentina but gaining admiration in the United States and Europe.

Piazzolla’s extensive body of work, with over 750 compositions, includes tangos for various ensembles, symphonic, and chamber music. His music influenced a new generation of tango composers and found its way into film scores, television programs, and commercials.
