Takemitsu-I hear the water dreaming-Flute and Orchestra-Score Only-Schott
This work was inspired by a painting entitled Water Dreaming, by an artist of Papunya, a desert area of Western Australia. Water Dreaming was based on ‘Dreamtime’, a myth handed down among the Australian aborigines. Though simple, the painting is filled with mythological signs and symbols. Its unique image completely captured my heart. Following a short prelude, the melodious theme played by the flute is a musical adaptation of the water icon in the painting. The entire work is composed of numerous melodic sub species and colorful embellishments derived from this theme. Toru Takemitsu
Japanese composer, Toru Takemitsu (1930 – February 20, 1996) composed several hundred compositions, scored over ninety films and published twenty books on subjects including aesthetics and music theory. He was well known for fusing elements of Oriental and Western philosophy as well as combining opposites together such as ‘sound v silence’ and ‘tradition v innovation’.
