Matt Smith
Matt Smith (born in 1984) studied flute with Ian Clarke, Phillipa Davis, and Sarah Newbold, as well as piccolo with Sharon Williams, and composition with Adam Melvin at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
In 2005, his first composition for piccolo and piano was published by UMP, and since then, his works have been performed worldwide, in countries such as Australia, Brazil, Peru, Slovenia, and the United States. Matt has enjoyed being a composer in residence at festivals in both the US and the UK.
Matt’s compositions have been included in the Trinity Guildhall exam board syllabus for over a decade, and in 2012, he was commissioned to write three pieces for their series of flute repertoire books called “Musical Moments.” He is enthusiastic about creating educational music for all levels and is currently working on a starter series of compositions for flute and piano.
Throughout the past ten years, Matt has built a diverse catalogue of approximately twenty-five works. In addition to his musical endeavours, he keeps busy with performances, conducting, and teaching.
