About
Twelve sets of daily exercises for flautists based on scales and chords by Geoffrey Gilbert (Revised Edition)
These scalic exercises are primarily designed to help familiarise students with simple sequential patterns and modulations. Most of them are easily memorised and should be attempted at a fairly early stage.
Geoffrey Gilbert-Flautist
Gilbert (1914-1989) was born in Liverpool. Aged 16, he became Principal Flautist of the Halle orchestra. At 19, he joined the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He later became the Principal Flute of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also a Professor of flute at the Royal Northern College of Music, Trinity College and the Guildhall School of Music. Among his students were William Bennett, Susan Milan and James Galway. In 1969, he moved to America.
