Description

Saint-Saens Odelette opus 162-Flute and Piano-Durand

Saint-Saens Odelette opus 162-Flute and Piano-Durand

Saint-Saens Odelette opus 162-Flute and Piano-Durand (Saint-Saëns Odelette pour flute et piano) was composed in 1920. Odelette in D Major was originally composed for flute solo and orchestra. This edition is for solo flute and piano reduction.

The title translates as a term used for a woman of the Turkish harem. Saint-Saens had an interest in the authentic music of Islamic countries, seen here in the themes entwined in the main melodic themes.

Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns was a French composer, organist, conductor and pianist of the Romantic era. His best-known works include Danse macabre, the opera Samson and Delilah, the Third (“Organ”) Symphony and also The Carnival of the Animals.
