Paganini 24 Caprices-Arr Marina Piccinini-Schott
Paganini 24 Caprices-Arr Marina Piccinini-Schott For flute. Composed by Nicolo Paganini (1782-1840). Edited by Jordan Rae Borg, Scott Wollschleger. Arranged by Marina Piccinini. Edition Schott. Marina Piccinini’s new arrangements of the Caprices remain true to Paganini’s uncompromising artistic vision and showcase an array of challenging techniques that idiomatically exploit the unique tone and expressive range of the flute. Paganini – 24 Caprices were originally written for solo violin between 1802 and 1817. The work resembles an etude collection, with each individual piece exploring a particular skill. They were first published in 1820, dedicated as a set to ‘all artists’ (each individual number had a dedicatee, though). In subsequent years, famous composers arranged the caprices for other instruments and wrote accompaniments (such as Robert Schumann). Nowadays the Caprices are one of Paganini’s best-known compositions and are widely played as pieces for technical display.
