About
A three-movement work in a South American improvisatory style, combining various Latin rhythms. Each movement incorporates a different musical style including Salsa, Merengue, Rumba, Tango and Bossa Nova. Salsa Montunate as the title suggests, draws from Cuban/Venezuelan Salsa. Rumbango is a mixture of Rumba and Tango-type rhythms, as found in Columbia and Argentina. Bossa Merengova borrows from the more recent Bossa Nova hybrid rhythms from Brazil.
Optional parts are available for performance with flute and salsa band as recorded by James Galway. Sonata Latino was written in October 1994 for Kirsten Spratt and Elizabeth Mucha.

Mower is a composer, specialising in commissioned works. His music is published by Itchy Fingers Publications, where he has authored successful educational music books. He also arranges commercial music in a wide range of styles. Mower studied classical flute at the Royal Academy of Music and was later awarded the ARAM (Associate of the Royal Academy of Music).
Additionally, Mower plays saxophone and clarinet, leading his own jazz ensembles and performing his compositions from quartets to big bands.
In 1985, Mower established and led Itchy Fingers, a renowned jazz saxophone quartet that toured globally until disbanding in 1997. As a freelance musician, he has collaborated and recorded with diverse artists across jazz, rock, and classical genres, including Gil Evans, Tina Turner, Paul Weller, Björk, James Galway, and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
