JS Bach Studies for Flute-Edition Breitkopf

JS Bach Studies for Flute-Edition Breitkopf 24 arrangements of works by J.S. Bach arranged by Fritz Schindler edited by Gerhard Braun [fl] * (Separate books)

  • Volume 1*
  • Volume 2*

‘Our edition is based on Fritz Schindler’s 24 transcriptions of works by Bach for flute solo from the year 1896. Long an essential part of every student flutist’s repertoire, this book features comprehensive studies in finger technique and stimulating exercises in phrasing, articulation and dynamics thanks to the high musical quality of the pieces. Gerhard Braun has revised the musical text, eliminated the many expressive markings and slurs that had been added to editions of early music in Schindler’s day, and restored their original forms. The player thus has a greater amount of interpretive freedom and a variety of different performance possibilities.’ Breitkopf Description

Johann Sebastian Bach was a German composer and musician of the Baroque period. He enriched the German music style through his skills in motif production and organisation of counterpoint and also harmony. Bach’s adaptation of rhythms, forms, and textures took influence from abroad, particularly Italy and France.  The Chaconne forms the longest movement of the piece by far. A basic theme begins the movement, followed by many reinstatements in an array of variations.
