French composer, Jacques Ibert was born in France in 1890. Ibert studied at the Paris Conservatoire and preferred not to link himself to any particular genre of writing at the time. He pursued a successful composing career, writing several operas, chamber works, choral piece, film music ballets and chamber music amongst other music.
Ibert’s musical studies were interrupted by the outbreak of World War I. He later resumed his studies in Rome winning the the Conservatoire’s top prize in 1919, the ‘Prix de Rome’. As well as a composer, he was a keen conductor and also became the Director of the Academie die France in 1939.
