Sir Hamilton Harty

Sir Herbert Hamilton Harty, an Irish composer, conductor, pianist, and organist, began his career as a church organist in Ireland.

He relocated to London in the 1900s establishing himself as a respected accompanist and composer. Alongside his wife, soprano Agnes Nicholls, Harty presented numerous recitals and earned acclaim as a conductor with the London Symphony Orchestra. He held the position of conductor for the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester from 1920 to 1933.

Harty’s compositions encompassed various genres, including a violin concerto, the tone poem “With the Wild Geese,” and the Irish Symphony. In recognition of his contributions, he was knighted in 1925.
