Gubaidulina Allegro Rustico Sounds Of The Forest-Flute and Piano-Sikorski is a two-movement work for flute and piano. These pieces show off the different styles of Gubaidulina’s writing. They are both enjoyable to listen to and characterful to play.
Gubaidulina wrote both pieces at different periods in her life. The first movement is from her earlier period and focuses on more traditional textural treatments of the two instruments, while the second movement uses a rhythmic language, in similar registers creating an atmospheric effect.
Sofia Asgatovna Gubaidulina is a Russian composer. She studied at Kazan Conservatory and also Moscow Conservatory. She is one of the earliest Soviet composers to show a deep interest in religious themes, as this was repressed during the Soviet ruling. She’s written music for film, chamber ensembles, solo repertoire, many concertos and music for orchestra.
