Gariboldi 20 Petites Etudes for Flute-Schott

£12.88

The Italian flute virtuoso Giuseppe Gariboldi (1833-1905) wrote numerous studies for the flute which are among today’s standard teaching literature. Starting with easy melodic tonal studies, the ‘First Exercises’ gradually expand their range of tones, thus increasing the technical demands.

Gariboldi 20 Petites Etudes for Flute-Schott

Gariboldi 20 Petites Etudes for Flute-Schott (Small Studies for flute)

About

The Petites Etudes are of similar melodic charm as Gariboldi’s Études mignonnes Op.131 (Schott, ED 20354). A bit more virtuoso with regard to the fingering technique and articulation (and with the additional keys E major and Ab major), they are, in a sense, a continuation of his ‘Mignonnes’.

In this volume, the use of dynamics and the articulation described in great detail are essential to the interpretation of the études. Performed accurately, they freshen the sound and sharpen the listener’s perception, especially through the constantly varying execution of similar motifs. If practised accordingly, the Petites Etudes can improve technical skills considerably.

Giuseppe Gariboldi

Italian flautist and composer, Giuseppe Gariboldi (1833-1905) wrote an array of works for flute as well as numerous songs and operettas. To date, his Vingt Petites Études, Etudes Mignonnes op. 131, 20 Petites Etudes op. 132, Exercices journaliers op. 89 and 15 Etudes Modernes et Progressives have remained a popular choice for students and professionals alike.

In 1856, he moved to Paris, working as a flautist and composer. From 1859 to 1861, he gave concerts in Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Austria. From 1871 to 1895, he taught flute and composition at the Lycée Jacques-Decour in Paris.
