Franck Sonata in A Major-Flute and Piano-Edition Galway-Schirmer Franck Sonata in A Major-Flute and Piano-Edition Galway-Schirmer (Great Performer’s Edition) – César Franck Sonate A-Dur – This sonata was originally written for violin and piano and later arranged for flute and piano. This Sonata begins with an ‘Allegro ben moderato’, featuring a high melody played pianissimo in triple time. The piano comes to the fore in the second movement, marked Allegro, though it has a slower middle section. A short ‘Recitativo-Fantasia’ has both instruments really integrating and playing off each other, then fading to nothing, whereas the last movement ‘Allegretto poco mosso’ is loud and declamatory, with a persistent melody. He studied privately in Paris with composer, Anton Reicha and later embarked on his career as an organist and teacher in Paris.
