Curnow’s impressive repertoire consists of over 800 published works, with more than 400 commissioned pieces for concert band, brass band, orchestra, choir, and various ensembles. As a conductor, composer, and clinician, he has gained acclaim worldwide, having travelled extensively across the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and Europe. Curnow currently resides in North Carolina with his wife and remains dedicated to full-time composition and serving as Composer-in-Residence Emeritus for Asbury University. He also acts as the editor of music publications for The Salvation Army in Atlanta, Georgia.
Born in Port Huron, Michigan, in 1948, Paul Curnow has had a lifelong passion for music. He obtained a Master’s Degree in composition and conducting from the University of Denver and went on to teach at both the University of Denver and California State University in San Bernardino. Throughout his career, he has been involved in composing and arranging for various musical groups, including concert bands, brass bands, jazz bands, vocal ensembles, string ensembles, and stage musicals.
Stephen Bulla’s musical journey began at a young age in a home filled with music. He excelled in his studies and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music. His exceptional talent led him to become the Staff Arranger for “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band and Chamber Orchestra, where he composed music for numerous White House events over three decades.
Collaborating with film score legend John Williams, Bulla transcribed music from iconic movies like “Star Wars” and “Catch Me If You Can.” He also received commissions for concert works, performed and recorded worldwide. Notable projects include completing John Philip Sousa’s last known manuscript march and composing the Von Braun Suite for the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing. Bulla’s expertise extends to conducting, having directed acclaimed bands and receiving recognition from the North American Brass Band Association. A proud ASCAP member, his published works are available through Hal Leonard Music and The Salvation Army’s music catalogue.
Timothy R. Johnson is an accomplished American composer, conductor, and publisher. He began his musical journey at a young age, mastering the piano and cornet before focusing on the trumpet. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in music education from Asbury College and a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Illinois, Johnson furthered his studies in composition at the University of Kentucky.
His passion for composing was sparked while playing with a brass ensemble for Salvation Army Christmas Kettles, leading him to create brass quartet arrangements of popular carols. Under the guidance of James Curnow, his instructor at Asbury College, Johnson honed his composition skills. Subsequently, he served as a dedicated band director in Kentucky before joining Curnow Music Press as music editor and later becoming the general manager.
