Benda Sonata in G Major-Flute and Piano-Schott (FTR9 /Opus III, No.1) Czech composer, Franz Benda (1709-1786) was a Bohemian violinist and composer. At the age of eighteen, Benda pursued his studes of the violin under Johann Gottlieb Graun, a pupil of Tartini. In 1732, he entered the service of Frederick the Great (then crown prince of Prussia) where he was a member of the crown prince’s orchestra. He later became concertmaster to the king. During his service to the king, he played approximately 50,000 concertos over a period of forty years.
