Baroque Studies Complied by Elizabeth Walker

Elizabeth Walker’s “Baroque Flute Studies,” published by Wonderful Winds, received the prestigious “Best Flute Method” award in the NFA Newly Published Music Competition 2015. This comprehensive book, authored by an esteemed expert on historical performance practice, offers a unique ‘through the keys’ approach to the baroque flute technique, highlighting the distinct colours of each key.

The book covers a wide range of topics, including tone exercises, studies, solos, duets, and trios. It also features essential resources such as fingering and trill fingering charts, a chapter on ornamentation, and orchestral excerpts in every key. Notably, it includes a significant portion of J.S. Bach’s frequently performed repertoire.

An indispensable guide for baroque flautists, this book also serves as a valuable study aid for modern flautists interested in exploring the baroque flute repertoire. With its comprehensive content and authoritative insights, “Baroque Flute Studies” by Elizabeth Walker is a must-have for flautists seeking to master this fascinating musical era.
