Andrew Lane
Andrew Lane, an accomplished flautist, served as Principal Piccolo and flautist in the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) for 38 years. His musical journey began with Atarah Ben-Tovim and continued with flute studies at the Royal Academy of Music under Derek Honner’s guidance.
Prior to joining the CBSO, he performed with the orchestra of D’Oyly Carte Opera Company and spent a season with Max Jaffa’s spa orchestra in Scarborough. Throughout his tenure with the CBSO, Andrew had the privilege of performing a wide array of exceptional music under the baton of distinguished conductors like Sir Simon Rattle, Sakari Oramo, Andris Nelsons, and Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, as well as numerous inspiring guest conductors.
Aside from orchestral playing, Andrew is passionate about playing chamber music and coaching individuals and groups on flute and piccolo.
