Care Instructions

Caring for Your New Flute – All Flutes Plus Guide

It’s important to look after your new flute, and here’s how we at All Flutes Plus recommend you care for it.

  • With your new flute, you’ll receive a cleaning rod, internal gauze, and a microfibre external cloth.
  • After each playing session, use the rod and gauze to remove moisture from the inside of the flute. This moisture can damage the pads over time, so drying the instrument thoroughly helps prolong their life.
  • Use the microfibre cloth to wipe down the outside of the flute after playing. This slows down the tarnishing process. Tarnishing is a natural reaction between the silver (or silver plating) and sulphur in the air or on your skin, causing the metal to turn brown or misty. Tarnish will be removed during your regular flute servicing.
  • While we understand that keeping your flute out on display may encourage you to practise more often, leaving it out of its case can increase the chance of tarnishing and physical damage. We strongly recommend placing your flute back in its case after cleaning and playing.
  • We recommend having your flute serviced every 1-2 years depending on how much you play your instrument. Regular servicing keeps your instrument in top playing condition and helps prevent long-term issues.

Headjoint Testing

Headjoints can radically enhance the sound of most flutes. With a vast array of headpieces made by several respected flute makers worldwide, each one differs by its embouchure cut, lip plate and material. Each headjoint offers different qualities, including wide-ranging tonal colours, projection, more/less resistance and ease of articulation. Headjoint choices are entirely subjective! Please note that whilst these head joints are for sale, we advise you to try them before you buy!

Head joints come in lots of shapes and sizes. It is therefore recommended that you try the headjoint either in our testing room at All Flutes Plus or by pre-arranged trial within the comfort of your own home.

Insuring Your Flute

At All Flutes Plus, we’ve seen it all — which is why we strongly recommend insuring your flute.

We’ve worked closely with New Moon Insurance for decades and even trust them with our own coverage. They’re reliable, supportive, and understand the needs of musicians.

Returns Policy

We want our customers to be completely happy with all purchases from us.  We provide a 14 day period in which to return any items for exchange or refund if they are deemed unsuitable.*  This is subject to the item/s being returned in the same condition they were sent out in, and the item/s being complete with all packaging and component parts.

*We are not able to accept returns for instruments supplied outside the UK.  This is because we would be charged import duty and VAT on re-entry into the UK which we would not be able to reclaim.  Orders accepted outside the UK are on an irrevocable order basis only.

Warranty

AFP Support Plan For New Flutes Only
We want you to feel assured that you are purchasing from a retailer who cares about their customers and so, in addition to manufacturers warranties, all new instruments purchased from all flutes plus are covered for one year by our AFP Support Plan!  This means that you’re eligible for the following benefits:

One of our specialist team will test your instrument before it leaves the shop, ensuring that it is playing beautifully and functioning as well as possible.  We check that the mechanism is responding quickly, each pad is seating nicely over the tone-holes, and that each of the joints are fitting together smoothly. Recommended tweaks can usually be made by one of our repairers on the day of purchase.

Sometimes, no matter how well an instrument is cared for, the mechanism can come out of alignment and adjustments need to be made.  If this should happen within the first year of purchase, these adjustments will be made, free of charge by one of our world-renowned technicians.  If you have any concerns at all, give our workshop a call and they will be happy to advise you on the next step.

Towards the end of the first year of owning your new flute, contact us to book your flute in for its free end-of-year checkover!  This provides that extra bit of TLC to ensure your flute is kept in the best possible condition.

*excluding repairs necessary due to damage by misuse or accident.
