In 1830, he began studying at the Paris Conservatoire under the flautist Jean-Louis Tulou, and in 1832, he won first prize. He later moved to London, where he became the principal flautist at the Queen’s Theatre. After the theatre closed in 1853, he returned to Paris, performing as a solo flautist at the Théâtre Lyrique.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAround 1865, Rémusat relocated to Shanghai, where he founded the Shanghai Philharmonic Society. In 1879, he became the first conductor of the Shanghai Public Band, which would later evolve into the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. Verdi’s career took off when his opera, Oberto, conte di San Bonifacio, was successfully produced at La Scala in 1839.
