During his time at the College, he developed a keen interest in bands and actively participated in the College wind orchestra. He also formed a brass band with fellow students and began writing compositions for both ensembles.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs his music gained popularity, Sparke received various commissions, including a major one for the Centennial Brass Band Championships in New Zealand, resulting in “The Land of the Long White Cloud.” His talent earned him further commissions from different bands, band associations, and the BBC. Notably, he won the EBU New Music for Band Competition thrice with his compositions “Slipstream,” “Skyrider,” and “Orient Express.”\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSparke’s association with Japanese banding led to a special commission, “Celebration,” and a recording with the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, expanding the reach of his wind band music worldwide.
