During the last reprise, a wordless chorus joins in. In Act II’s first scene, Athanaël, a monk from the Cenobite order, confronts Thaïs, a captivating and hedonistic courtesan devoted to Venus. He attempts to persuade her to forsake her life of luxury and pleasure, encouraging her to seek salvation through God.
