These works are technically demanding and explore the flute’s possibilities far beyond the standard playing techniques of the time.

Although only nine of the pieces survive, they show a wide stylistic range, moving from romanticism through impressionism to modern disintegration of tonality. The pieces are shaped by occasional ostinato figures and exotic scales, giving them a distinctly impressionistic character.

This revised edition is based on the 1920 publication and corrects obvious rhythmic and notation inconsistencies, as well as discrepancies between the flute part and score.

Contents

Idylle champetre

Danse pittoresque

Colibri

Lotus

Evocation a Brahma

About Sigfrid Karg-Elert

Late romantic/impressionistic German composer, Sigfrid Karg-Elert (1877-1933) was best known for his works for organ and harmonium.
