Initially inspired by the fast and syncopated bounce of a squash ball, Court Dances grew into a celebratory and soulful suite in three virtuosic movements. Court Dances was co-commissioned by 57 flautists from around the world in a consortium that was spear-headed by flautist Cobus du Toit. It was premiered at the National Flute Association convention in Minneapolis in August 2017 by Mr. du Toit, with the composer at the piano.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eAmanda Harberg\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAmanda Harberg, a renowned composer, fuses classical Western tradition and contemporary influences, creating a distinctively personal style. The New York Times hails her work as “a sultry excursion into lyricism,” while Cleveland Classical praises her ability to convey “a thoroughly original sense of happiness in music.”\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHarberg’s compositions have been conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, JoAnn Falletta, and others. She received commissions from prestigious organizations like the Philadelphia Orchestra Association and the New World Symphony.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs a concert pianist, Harberg has performed with prominent musicians from major orchestras. Besides her musical career, she is a dedicated educator with over two decades of experience, teaching composition and more. She currently teaches at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts and the Interlochen Arts Camp.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHer music has graced renowned venues like Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. She has also composed scores for award-winning documentaries and films.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWith a PhD from Rutgers University and a Fulbright\/Hays fellowship with composer\/pianist Frederic Rzewski, Harberg continues to enrich the musical world with her compositions and performances.
