He later became the Principal Flute of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also a Professor of flute at the Royal Northern College of Music, Trinity College and the Guildhall School of Music. Among his students were William Bennett, Susan Milan and James Galway.
