He later studied jazz composition alongside the Western classical tradition and has since written several hundred works, including chamber music, solo pieces, choral works and symphonies, many of which reflect his strong jazz influences.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThree Rags for Flute offers a contemporary take on ragtime, a style that developed in the southern and midwestern United States towards the end of the nineteenth century and became widely popular in the early twentieth century.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRagtime takes its name from its characteristic “ragged”, or syncopated, melodies, traditionally set against a steady march-like accompaniment.
