He was also a Professor of flute at the Paris Conservatoire. As well as being an active flute player on the Paris playing scene, he also played bassoon at the Paris Opera.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe wrote around 300 works mainly for wind instruments. These comprise of 12 flute concertos, woodwind sinfonia, 5 bassoon concertos, 6 bassoon sonatas, 6 oboe sonatas and numerous trios and quartets for various combinations. He also wrote 12 operas amongst other works. In 1968 he took up the post of Flute Professor at the Paris Conservatoire.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe enhanced the status of the flute as a concert instrument through his vast number of recordings from Baroque masterpieces to jazz.
