He went on to study composition at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, graduating in 1956. After returning to Albania, he worked in music education and cultural institutions and served for many years as artistic director of the State Ensemble of Folk Songs and Dances.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDaija composed across a wide variety of genres, including orchestral and chamber music, opera, operetta, ballet, songs and film music. His Halili dhe Hajrija, premiered in the early 1960s, is recognised as the first Albanian ballet.
