In 1900 he became principal of the Birmingham and Midland Institute School of Music, now the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and in 1908 succeeded Edward Elgar as Professor of Music at the University of Birmingham, remaining there until 1934.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBantock was a prolific composer whose music often drew inspiration from literature, mythology, folk traditions and distant cultures. His output ranges from large-scale orchestral and choral works to songs and chamber music, with notable works including the Hebridean Symphony, Omar Khayyám and Pagan Symphony.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA strong supporter of contemporary composers, Bantock also championed the music of figures including Sibelius, who dedicated his Third Symphony to him.
