In 1868 he was appointed as a flute professor at the Paris Conservatoire teaching students such as Georges Barrère and Adolphe Hennebains.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHis ‘Célèbre méthode complète de flûte’ remains a popular method in the flute repertoire. In 1894, he performed as Principal flautist at the premiere of Debussy´s Prélude à l´Après-midi d´un faune. In 1905 he emigrated with his family to New York, where he became the principal flautist of the New York Symphony.
