About

A charming Slovenian (Slovensko) melody, in a revised arrangement for piccolo & piano, suitable for players seeking an attractive concert item. The main melody is heard as a conversation between the piano and the piccolo and is decorated throughout with flowing arpeggios. This arrangement is based on the piano solo composed by Hugolin Sattner [1851 – 1934], who was a composer, organist and teacher in Slovenia.

As in the video above, there is a free play-along of the piano accompaniment provided for your entertainment on YouTube

Hugolin Sattner  (also known as Franc Sattner)

Sattner (1851-1934) was a Slovenian composer and Franciscan priest. He served as an organist and music teacher in Novo Mesto, and from 1890 until his death, he worked in Ljubljana as the leader of a choir. In 1867, he joined the Franciscan order.

He began composing in his 50s after learning harmony and counterpoint from the composer Matej Hubad. Despite this late start, he wrote the first Slovenian oratorio.

Notable works include:

  • Missa seraphica
  • Te Deum
  • Jeftejeva prisega, a cantata
  • Vnebovzetje Blažene device Marije (Assumptio Beatae Mariae Virginis), an oratorio in three parts (1911)
  • Oljki, a symphonic cantata (1914)
  • Soči, a symphonic cantata (1916)
  • V pepelnični noči (1921)
  • Tajda ali Komposteljski romarji, an opera in three acts (1922-1925)
  • V kripti sv. Cecilije (1931)
