Yoko Kubo studied composition with Kei Kondo, musical analysis with Olivier Messiaen and Iannis Xenakis, and piano with Yvonne Loriod and Cristian Petrescu. From 1984 to 1987, she received an invitation from the French Government to pursue studies at IRCAM under the guidance of Pierre Boulez and at Paris University I as a scholarship recipient. In 1995, she successfully completed her PhD in Arts and Science of Art at Paris University, supervised by Iannis Xenakis.

Notably, she was invited to lecture at esteemed institutions such as Paris-Sorbonne University, Paris University VI, and the Paris Conservatoire. Presently, she holds the position of professor at the Osaka College of Music and has been a visiting professor at Paris-Sorbonne University since 2005.
