Louis-Gaston Ganne
Louis-Gaston Ganne (1862-1923) was a French conductor and composer known for his works in operas, operettas, ballets, and marches. He received his education at the Paris Conservatoire under the guidance of Massenet, winning first prize in harmony. Additionally, Ganne was awarded a second prize for organ in Cesar Franck’s class.
One of his notable compositions was the music for the operetta “The Acrobats,” which gained him recognition in 1899. As a conductor, he was prolific, creating numerous operettas, ballets, military marches, and popular songs. In 1905, he established the Orchestra of Monte-Carlo.
Born in the Auvergne region of France, Ganne grew up in Issy-les-Moulineaux, a suburb of Paris. Throughout his career, he conducted performances at the Nouveau Théâtre de la Rue Blanche and the Folies-Bergère, and he later led concerts at the Monte Carlo Casino.
Ganne’s most recognizable works today include his patriotic marches, “Le père la victoire” and “La Marche Lorraine.” He also ventured into ballet, with his composition for the 1902 ballet “In Japan.
