Barbara Giesler-Haase
Barbara Gisler-Haase is professor emerita for flute at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
In 1974, she won a prize at the “Prague Spring” competition. In 1983, she founded the “Vienna Flautists” ensemble, and in 1997, she established the Jubal Trio Vienna, a group consisting of flute, violoncello, and piano.
She has performed numerous concerts with both ensembles and has released over 15 CDs. She is also the author of the flute school series called “Magic Flute,” which consists of several volumes, and the “Fit for the Flute” series.
Barbara Gisler-Haase has taught international courses and served as a juror at international competitions. In 2009, she co-invented a new flute for children learning to play, based on the “wave-line” principle. This instrument received the Red-dot Award and the Houska Recognition Prize.
Until 2015, she served as the head of the Leonard Bernstein Institute for Wind and Percussion Instruments at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna. From October 2015 to September 30, 2023, she held the position of Vice Rector for Teaching, the Arts, and the Promotion of Young Academics at the same university and will end this position as of Sept. 30, 2023.
