Louis Francois Aubert

Aubert (1877-1968) was a French composer and an accomplished singer and pianist. Recognised as a musical prodigy, Aubert’s parents sent him to Paris at a young age to pursue his education. He gained acclaim for his vocal abilities, particularly for his performances of Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem’s Pie Jesu at the Église de la Madeleine. While studying at the Paris Conservatoire, Aubert had the opportunity to meet Fauré and regularly attended his composition classes, which greatly influenced his artistic development.

In addition to his vocal talent, Aubert became a proficient pianist. In 1911, he premiered Maurice Ravel’s ‘Valses Nobles et Sentimentales’, a piece dedicated to him. He also worked as a piano and composition teacher, both privately and at the Conservatoire de Paris.

Aubert’s compositional repertoire included music for the church, ballets, popular songs, opera, mélodies, and incidental music for the stage.
