About

A brief nocturne composed for alto flute and piano, inspired by the film of the same name directed by Paradjanov. One scene in the film depicts a peasant sitting on a cupola, playing his flute as church bells chime in the background. In my composition, I interpret this scene by crafting a leisurely and melodic tune for the alto flute, while the piano emulates the sound of the bells accompanying the performance.

The piece uses few special effects, save overblowing to produce chords of harmonics towards the close. The Colour of Pomegranates was commissioned by the Park Lane Group and is dedicated with gratitude to James Dutton.
